British Sake Association Members’ Sake Study Group & Social on the 4th September – Tickets on Sale!

The BSA Committee is pleased to once again invite you to sip sake in conversation with your fellow Association Members. Our theme for this study group & social will be the sakes of the Tohoku region.

Selection of nine photos from previous BSA study group events

Comprising Honshu’s most northerly six prefectures — Akita, Aomori, Fukushima, Iwate, Miyagi, and Yamagata — the Tohoku region stands out as possessing a strong sake-making culture, balancing both tradition and innovation. Tohoku’s famously snowy winters have long shaped rice cultivation, brewing processes, and maturation of sake alike, contributing (broadly!) to lighter, delicate styles of sake, in keeping with the teachings of the influential Nambu tōji guild.

But, with so many local rice varieties, a number of important local brewing yeasts, and certain geographical diversity within the region, there is plenty of variety within Tohoku’s sakes, too. A powerhouse of quality sake production — Tohoku breweries scooping some 50% of Gold Medals awarded at the Japan National Sake Appraisal — Members are in for a treat!

Join us at our usual meeting spot — Vagabond Monument — where charcuterie and fromagerie, small plates, and the ever-popular steak sharers will provide a counterpoint to the wonderful range of sakes kindly brought by attendees.

Date: Monday 4th September 2023
Time:
7pm to 9pm
Address:
Vagabond Monument, 51 Gracechurch Street, EC3V 0EH
(nearest stations: Monument, Cannon Street)

Tickets: £28 for BSA Members ONLY

Tickets can be purchased by clicking on the blue button above, which will direct you to Paypal. If you have any issues booking, please email us at events@britishsakeassociation.org and we will be happy to assist.

Tickets are strictly limited, to ensure proper attention is paid to each sake kindly shared by Members.

Attending Members will each bring one bottle of a sake from the Tohoku region to the event. After you have purchased your ticket, please email us at events@britishsakeassociation.org to suggest two potential sake options you can bring on the night. The BSA Committee will go through attendees’ suggestions before the event to ensure a suitable selection (ensuring no duplicate sakes and full coverage of sake styles and Tohoku’s prefectures), and advise you before Sept 4th which of your suggested bottles to bring .

If you aren’t sure what to get, we are happy to provide suggestions for you via email!

*** If you have to cancel your booking after purchasing a ticket, we can offer a full credit towards a future BSA event up until 1 week before the Study Group. After this time, a credit will only be possible if we can re-sell your space to another member – thank you for your understanding.

Our Masterclasses and Study groups are open to current members only.
