The BSA Committee is excited to once again invite you to sip sake in conversation with your fellow Association Members. Our theme for this meeting will be the sakes of Shikoku & Kyushu.
Shikoku, comprised of four prefectures on the Shikoku Island — Tokushima, Kagawa, Ehime, Kochi, is a deeply underrated sake region. From olive yeast (Kagawa), Sakurahime yeast (Ehime) to yeast that has travelled to the deep sea and outer space (Kochi), these four prefectures have implemented extensive sake yeast programmes, which demonstrates innovation and creativity in how sake can be fermented.
Kyushu, with seven prefectures on the Kyushu Island – Fukuoka, Saga, Nagasaki, Oita, Kumamoto, Miyazaki, Kagoshima – the land where sake AND shochu co-exist harmoniously. Historically, the warm climate of Kyushu has discouraged sake brewing due to high rates of spoilage. Only Fukuoka and Saga have a stronger sake culture. Instead, shochu distillation dominates the other five prefectures. If you order ‘sake’ in Kagoshima, you will be given a glass of shochu!
Thus, for this study group, we also accept you bringing a bottle of shochu if you find it difficult to source a bottle of sake from the Kyushu region.
Join us at our usual meeting place — Vagabond Monument — where charcuterie and fromagerie, small plates, and the ever-popular steak sharers will provide a counterpoint to the wonderful range of sakes (and shochu maybe) kindly brought by attendees.

Tickets are strictly limited, to ensure proper attention is paid to each sake kindly shared by Members.
Attending Members will each bring one bottle of any style of sake or shochu from Shikoku or Kyushu to the event. After you have purchased your ticket, we will contact you to request you send us the names of two potential sake options you can bring on the night, so that a suitable selection (ensuring no duplicate sakes etc) can be made by the BSA Committee beforehand.
If you aren’t sure what to bring, just let us know and we will be happy to provide some suggestions! Food and glassware will be provided.
*** If you have to cancel your booking after purchasing a ticket, we are able to offer a full credit towards a future BSA event up until 72 hours before the event start. After this time, a credit will only be possible if we can re-sell your space to another member. Thank you for your understanding.
