The UK’s First WSET Level 2 Award in Sake Course is Launching this April – Exclusive Discount for BSA Members

After many years of waiting, the WSET Level 2 sake course is finally here! Launching globally on April 3rd, the first running of this course in the UK will be happening at West London Wine School on April 20th & 27th – and British Sake Association members can get an exclusive £45 discount off the course registration fee. Completing the sake education path from Level 1 to Level 3, this new qualification is perfectly pitched to give students a deeper understanding of sake and enhance personal enjoyment of the beverage, alongside a globally recognized qualification to help with advancement in the beverage industry.

This two day in-person course covers all the main categories of sake styles, examines the influences of production methods on each different category, and explores traditional and modern elements of sake service in Japan. No prior sake knowledge is required to take the course, so it is suitable for students new to sake as well as those wishing to build on the introductory knowledge gained with the WSET Level 1 Award in Sake (NOTE that Level 1 is not a required prerequisite for Level 2). Throughout the course, you will develop analytical sake tasting skills using the WSET Structured Approach to Tasting while exploring sake style and quality and linking tasting back to theory.

You will learn how to confidently describe what the general sake categories you have studied taste like. You will also become a competent sake taster and start the journey of learning the links between aroma, taste and touch to the theory of production. You will taste a minimum of 18 sake samples during the 15 hours of in-person classroom instruction. Upon successful completion of a 1-hour multiple-choice exam taking place two weeks after conclusion of the course (to allow adequate time to study), you will receive a WSET certificate and lapel pin and permission to use the associated WSET certified logo. You will also be thoroughly prepared to take on the WSET Level 3 Award in Sake with a solid groundwork of sake knowledge.
